A template is a starting point for a new project: it is applied when the project is created. An export preset is a saved export configuration applied at export time in an existing project. Both are available to everyone — they are not paid features.
Templates are snapshots: editing or deleting a template afterwards never changes projects already created from it.
On the dashboard, open the ••• menu on a project card and choose Save as template. It captures the project's tags, export settings and the active map layer. Give the template a name and it is ready the next time you create a project.
In the Create New Project dialog, pick a template under Start from template. Its tags are prefilled and stay editable, and the new project is created with the template's export settings and map layer already in place. The Manage button (and Settings → Templates) opens the template manager, where you can create, rename, edit tags or delete templates.
A project created from a template keeps the template's export settings — opening the Export step does not overwrite them with your last-used or default preset. As soon as you explicitly select or apply a preset in that project, your preset choice takes over from then on.
If a template's map file is no longer available when you create a project, the project is still created — without the map layer — and the workspace tells you so.
